Box Hill House was built from 1819 to 1897 and Box Hill Inn is suspected to have been built in 1825. The house was once a hunting house, which reflects the suburb’s name—Box Hill is possibly named after the hunting boxes built on the tops of hills during the 1800s, though no one knows the suburb’s true naming origins.
