4 Ways to Embrace Colour and Pattern in Your Kitchen

The all white kitchen that dominated the past decade is still a popular option but these days every room features some colour – even if it’s just in the accessories. Here are four ways to embrace colour and pattern in your kitchen.

Paint

Depending on where you have available wall space, colour on kitchen walls can be a great feature. As a lot of wall space is often taken up by cabinets, painting a bright colour on your kitchen wall can be a small and safe way to play with colour.

Splashback

This is a popular place for on-trend tiles to add personality to this area of the kitchen. Smaller, geometric or diagonal tiles are taking over from the subway tile that has been the hot favourite for a while now. The next big thing is the mirrored splashback, as it’s on the cusp of a major revival.

A mirrored splashback will inject light and complement the existing colour scheme of your room. Amplified colours can brighten up a room, while more monotone colours will make a kitchen feel calmer. A mirrored splashback will also make a space look and feel bigger, adding a luxurious feel. Splashbacks come in a range of different colour schemes, including smokey mirror or copper/rose toned and can be adjusted to the shape, colour and layout of your kitchen space.

For a more dramatic effect, window splashbacks make for a great feature as they allow more natural light into the kitchen space from the outside.

Light fittings

Geometric light fittings are a fashionable way to embrace pattern in your kitchen. There are many options for you to add lighting in your home. These days you can choose a light fitting style that can make a statement but also provides light to areas where you perform daily tasks.

Accessories

Plants and artwork are great in any room, but can be especially strong in the kitchen. Fruit and flowers are classics for an injection of colour and these can still be regular features, but now is a great time to experiment with more permanent options.
